Position: Legal Counsel Department: Legal Reports to: Chief Legal Officer POSITION SUMMARY: Canucks Sports & Entertainment (CSE) is seeking a highly motivated and commercially-minded lawyer to join our Legal team and support the Club’s business operations. This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of sports, entertainment, and business, providing practical legal advice across a broad range of matters that arise in the day-to-day operations of the Vancouver Canucks (NHL Hockey Club), Abbotsford Canucks (AHL Hockey Club), Vancouver Warriors (NLL Lacrosse Club), and Vancouver Surge (eSports Team), Rogers Arena and Rogers Forum, as well as related businesses including hospitality. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned as required) * Provide clear, sound, practical and strategic business-legal advice to internal stakeholders. * Review, negotiate and structure contracts on a timely basis. * Managing multiple priorities and provide legal support across commercial & business operations, intellectual property & branding, privacy, regulatory & risk, legal operations and governance, dispute analysis and resolution * Advise on matters relating to sports law, NHL, AHL and NLL league rules, league policies and applicable collective bargaining agreements, and support the Club in maintaining compliance with applicable requirements. * Support the legal and business teams on strategic initiatives, special projects and other matters affecting the Club’s business operations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * 1–3 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with experience in commercial, corporate, technology, entertainment, sports or general business law. * D., LL.B. or LL.L. from an accredited law school. * Member in good standing of a relevant provincial/state bar or law society. * Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment * Can manage multiple priorities with sound judgement * Approaches legal issues with a practical, solutions-oriented and business-minded approach * Strong contract drafting, review and negotiation skills. * Strong attention to detail, solid research skills and ability to exercise sound judgment. * A practical, commercially minded approach to legal advice. * Demonstrated discretion and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information. * Enjoy working in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment.
