The FPJCTM is seeking a lawyer to play a central role in the development and implementation of a new legal service for Indigenous community members in Montreal. In collaboration with the Executive Director and Manager of Community Programs, this is an exciting opportunity to shape a new initiative that can involve different areas of law such as family, civil, carceral or housing. The role will include providing direct legal services while working closely with community organizations, judicial partners, and Indigenous support workers to improve access to justice for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. Responsibilities Assist in the development and implementation of FPJCTM's delivery model for our in-house legal services. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with Indigenous organizations, community/institutional partners, and justice system stakeholders. Meet with community members, assess their legal situations, and determine the most appropriate legal options and courses of action. Provide clear, accessible, and culturally responsive legal advice tailored to each client's circumstances. Manage an independent caseload with the support of the FPJCTM team. Prepare files for hearings and other legal proceedings. Draft pleadings, legal opinions, demand letters, applications, and other legal documents. Conduct legal research to support case strategy and legal advocacy. Receive mandates to represent clients before courts within the scope of the position. Negotiate settlements and pursue alternative dispute resolution whenever appropriate. Work collaboratively with FPJCTM staff. Contribute to legal education, community outreach, systemic advocacy, and the ongoing development of FPJCTM's legal services. Qualifications Qualifications, knowledge and experience: Licensed to practise law in Quebec and a member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec Bachelor of law degree (LL.B); Strong knowledge of urban Indigenous issues and the eff ects of intergenerational trauma; A caring, supportive and engaging approach to the experiences of others; Good planning and organizational skills; Collaborative in working with others; Proficiency in Google suite, standard software applications, and video conferencing platforms. Experience in practicing criminal law would be considered a great asset;

Exigences

Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Quebec and be a member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec. A bachelor of law degree and a strong understanding of urban Indigenous issues and intergenerational trauma are required.
