Our valued law firm client is seeking a Legal Assistant for a full-time position, supporting their Commercial Litigation practice group. DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage time, resources, workflow and deadlines of lawyer(s) which involves maintaining a filing system for all documents, compiling and organizing materials required for lawyer’s work-in-progress, opening new files, etc. Prepare and assist in compiling all court documents including affidavits, application records, books of authority, etc. Maintain and organize a detailed system to ensure crucial litigation deadlines are met. Coordinate with court registries to resolve inquiries from counsel as they arise. Interact with clients, respond to and appropriately escalate client inquiries. Perform client account administration which involves ensuring that dockets are submitted, reviewing and editing e-prebills, preparing invoices for review by legal professionals, verifying fees and disbursements, preparing write-offs and addressing client inquiries regarding billing. Receive, research, prepare and follow up on audit inquiries. Proper handling of confidential materials and documents. Provide clerical and administrative support such as filing, answering the telephone, making travel arrangements, scheduling meetings, performing research as required, photocopying and binding materials, etc. EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE The position requires the successful completion of a Legal Assistant Diploma program. A minimum of five years’ experience in general or Commercial Litigation. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. KNOWLEDGE + SKILLS Technical proficiency including advanced Excel, Word and Adobe skills. Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), focused listening, interpersonal and negotiation skills. Superior organizational skills and ability to anticipate and plan ahead. Sound judgement and analytical skills. Ability to work independently as well as thrive in a team-based environment collaborating with team members. Attention to detail, organized and time management skills along with the ability to balance daily work. Ability to manage pressure and stress when dealing with deadlines and large volumes of work.
