The National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) is the labour union for the professional hockey players in the National Hockey League. Established in 1967, and with its headquarters in Toronto, the NHLPA’s principal role is to represent NHL players and to guarantee that their rights are upheld under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. The NHLPA has a current permanent opportunity for an Associate Counsel at its downtown Toronto location. Job Duties: · Draft, review and/or support negotiations for a variety of commercial contracts, including with business vendors and for the NHLPA’s sponsorship and licensing departments. · Contribute to the NHLPA’s international department, including with respect to the Olympics and the World Cup of Hockey. · Help navigate internal governance matters. · Special projects on an as-needed basis. Qualifications & Skills Required: · Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), or equivalent from an accredited institution. · A member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario or eligible for such membership. · Minimum 3 years hands-on commercial experience, either within a law firm, in-house, or a combination of both. · Strong candidates will have experience with one or more of the following legal areas: contracts, intellectual property, data privacy, licensing, business governance, and international agreements. · Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation and presentation skills with the ability to effectively interact with legal and non-legal team members. · Strong attention to detail, with the ability to multi-task and meet aggressive deadlines. · Independent thinker with strong judgment, analytical and reasoning skills. · A self-starter with an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
