Criminal Defence Lawyer

We are seeking a Criminal Defence Lawyer to join a growing and busy criminal defence practice in Medicine Hat,Calgary and Lethbridge Alberta, offering extensive courtroom experience, strong mentorship, and the opportunity to build an independent practice.This opportunity is open to lawyers at all stages of their careers, from newly called lawyers to experienced criminal defence counsel. The successful candidate will manage a broad range of criminal matters while receiving meaningful courtroom exposure and support from an experienced team. Responsibilities Represent clients in bail hearings, trials, sentencings, appeals, and other criminal proceedings Manage criminal defence files from intake through resolution Review disclosure and develop effective defence strategies Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, submissions, and other court materials Appear before the Provincial Court and the Court of King's Bench, including circuit courts throughout Alberta Communicate and negotiate with clients, Crown prosecutors, and the Court Maintain organized files and ensure compliance with court deadlines and procedural requirements Qualifications Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta or eligible for transfer Interest or experience in criminal defence law Strong advocacy, litigation, and communication skills Ability to manage multiple files in a fast-paced practice Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to circuit courts Active status on the Legal Aid Alberta Criminal Roster and familiarity with the Legal Aid portal is considered a strong asset

The lawyer will represent clients in bail hearings, trials, and appeals while managing criminal defence files from intake to resolution. Responsibilities include developing defence strategies, conducting legal research, and negotiating with Crown prosecutors.

Candidates must be members in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta or eligible for transfer. A valid driver's licence and experience or interest in criminal defence law are required.
